Review: The film is a breath of fresh air. That said, you have to go into it expecting a similar understanding of magic realism. I actually read the whole book by Mark Helprin, unlike most professional critics, so I know what kind of movie it was going to be and appropriate expectations. The book is about 700 pages and was not a Harry Potter-type 700 pages. The novel is a very complex piece, verbose, difficult to read and often very confusing to work, full of rich descriptive jam. I found myself reading parts over and over again to get an understanding of it that I am still quite sure where I was doing. In fact, most people I know have tried to read, and will eventually give up the book for the reasons I just mentioned. After I've finished the book, I was looking on the internet trying to find any comments about the book to help me understand and see if you really get it. In my frustration, you can not just find any comprehensive reviews of the book because most people I'm pretty sure (like me) had a lot of confusion with the story too! In most of the reviews I read, people adapt Akiva Goldsman great out saying it was terrible, but I strongly disagree. He had to leave some aspects of the book, in the interest of time (for example, a story full of characters from the middle of the book missing from the film.) Kept the very important parts of the novel and make a successful stand their theater own.Leaving, I feel like interpretation Goldsmans explain many books for me. By the way, I went to see the movie with someone who had read the book and knew nothing about it, and he thought it was a better way to say that comment too. As a matter of fact, Goldsmans like ending definitely better than Helprins! I finished the book with the feeling of what? That's it?? My book is missing pages? Movie version is how I wanted the book end.Additionally, verbose descriptions play Helprins beautiful in the eye of my mind (and not-so-nice), aspects of the story was brought to life achieve clear film with musical score and cinematography specialist heartstrings -on-the-tug. So if you are looking to curse them out, shoot-em-up, or where or futuristic film based on reality, it would be better DVD rental Winters Tale. If you are looking for a romantic fantasy to think more philosophically as an escape from most of the usual movies in theaters today, is worth the ticket price. |
