Review: Film with the scope of James Cameron the Avatar would always be a risk artistically and financially, especially in today's economic climate. Whether it will pay the money is only a matter of time, I can not answer, but the viewers can at least attest to it's artistic triumph.Avatar brings us as close as a movie ever actually visiting an alien world. Beautiful surroundings, exotic creatures and incredibly lifelike natives of Pandora arrest the senses, visually, aurally and emotionally. World in Avatar is the real star of the show. The amount of detail and work that went in, taking this new world alive is seriously impressive, and it will be a while before we see anything left behind in size and quality. Weta Workshop and ILM really back themselves.Relative newcomer, Aussie Sam Worthington provides a solid human heart in all the science-fiction of beauty and Zoe Saldana gives an impressive performance as a 8 foot tall Navi, Neytiri. Although both characters play are blue, giant alien cat, managed to produce a chemistry and likability that pierces through special effects.Thats does not mean that everything is perfect. The story is basic and dare I say cliché? D and predictable. We have seen it many times in all the media. The bad guys cartoonishly evil, and unfortunately the paper thin. The love story, while charming, is also a cliche? D, even between humans and the aliens. But in the face of these shortcomings, Avatar is a success, because the story is brilliant visuals.Avatar a beautiful piece of film and a real event. It is exactly what movies has always meant - it takes us away from our problems and cares for a few hours and gives us memorable images that undoubtedly and deservedly enter the cultural lexicon to stay for the foreseeable future.9.5 / 10 |
